OML Writer FAQs
Writer Testimonials - See what our writers say about us
The Organic Music Library is a boutique product with extremely high standards. We are very choosy about what we accept. Though we sometimes include rather odd or quirky material and encourage out of the ordinary writers to submit, in general we insist on top quality writing and production. Our acceptance rate is not that high, please don't be discouraged if we reject your submission
Is this non-exclusive?
No, you should only submit material that is not currently in any other library.
If you accept my material, is there a length of time I have to stay with you?
You are free to remove your material from the library at any time with 90 days notice understanding that any placements which have occurred during your time with the OML will remain in place
Can I sell my material on iTunes or my own CD etc.?
As long as you are only selling to the consumer, absolutely. We are only interested in the professional market although from time to time, we might have certain opportunities available that involve the consumer market. We address those on a case by case basis with our writers.
How does payment work?
Writers receive 50% of the net sale price for any of their tracks that are sold. Our current price points are $99.00 per single track. Blanket licenses vary and we often offer special deals of varying natures. Expenses are generally minor, expect a few bucks or so per track. Writers whose tracks are used within blanket license sales are paid on a pro-rata basis quarterly. When performing royalties are available, writers maintain 100% of performing royalty writer's share, The OML generally retitles the work for the media market and retains 100% of the publishing share.
Is there a writer agreement?
Absolutely, and it's a good one; clear and concise with a 'Plain English" translation. You can see it here:
I think my music is honestly pretty good, why would you reject it?
Sometimes well produced and well written music may not suit our particular needs as far as fitting into the overall feel of the catalog. Or, we may be very heavy in that genre and not in need. Though we don't give detailed explanations of rejections, common issues are primarily:
- Simply bad or inexperienced writing
- Poor production quality
- Extremely busy music that is not appropriate for media purposes
- Submissions that simply don't follow our guidelines
What are your submission guidlines?
- Track can't be in any other library
- No vocals - we can only use instrumentals
- No fades - all tracks must have a defniite ending
- Track must be between 1-4 minutes and length
